Tug Vachon and bulk carrier Orient Crusader

On 12 September 2014, the harbor tug "Vachon", while manoeuvring to berth the bulk carrier "Orient Crusader", made contact with the breakwater in Port Cartier, QC. Damage was reported to the tug and breakwater.
On 11 August 2014, the passenger vessel "LA RELEVE II", with 35 persons on board, reported a fire in the engine compartment off Havre-Saint-Pierre, QC. The passengers were evacuated onto the vessel liferafts. The fire was extinguished by the crew. No injuries or pollution. The TSB is conducting an investigation.
On 12 June 2014, the MV "Atlantic Erie" experienced electrical problems and ran aground while proceeding towards the upper lock of the Canal Welland in Port Colborne, Ontario. No injury or pollution was reported. The TSB deployed a team of investigators.
On 22 April 2014, the MV Halit Bey ran aground after having sustained a steering gear failure off Grondines, Quebec. The vessel was later refloated with the assistance of two tugs and proceeded to Trois-Rivières, Quebec. No injuries or pollution reported.
On 01 August 2014, the pilot boat Captain A. G. Soppitt, with 3 persons on board, collided with the passenger vessel Bayliner, also with 3 persons on board, in Saint John, New Brunswick harbour. Both vessels continued on their voyages after the collision.
On 26 June 2014, the fishing vessel "NO NAME SEA SERPENT 25", with 4 people on board, foundered and capsized 3.8 nm WNW of Little Port Hd, NL. The overturned vessel was subsequently discovered by a fisheries patrol and 3 crewmembers were rescued. One deceased crewmember was recovered.
On 14 March 2014, the bulk carrier John I became disabled off the southwest coast of Newfoundland and Labrador due to flooding in the engine room. The vessel drifted approximately 41 nautical miles before grounding on the Rose Blanche Shoals the following day. There were no injuries, and all 23 crew members were evacuated by helicopter. It was reported that no pollutants were released.
On 23 April 2013, the fishing trawler American Dynasty struck the HMCS Winnipeg while being towed to the graving dock in Esquimalt, British Columbia. There were injuries reported on the HMCS Winnipeg.
On 10 May 2013, a crew member was fatally injured when the tow winch brake on the Western Tugger ruptured into pieces after the barge Arctic Lift 1 under tow capsized 50 nm off Burgeo, Newfoundland.
Early on the morning of 24 January 2013, the tug Charlene Hunt lost the tow of the vessel Lyubov Orlova south of Cape Race, Newfoundland. The tow has not successfully resumed and the Lyubov Orlova is derelict and adrift in international waters.
