Air transportation safety investigation A23C0105

The occurrence

On 21 November 2023, a Pilatus PC-12/45 aircraft operated by North Star Air Ltd. was conducting a flight from Sioux Lookout Airport (CYXL), Ontario, to Kasabonika Airport (CYAQ), Ontario, with 2 crew members and 6 passengers on board.

While landing on Runway 03, the aircraft overran the end of the runway. The aircraft came to rest approximately 350 feet beyond the departure end of the runway, causing significant damage to the aircraft. The emergency locator transmitter activated.

The occurrence

On 03 November 2023, a privately operated Pilatus PC-24 aircraft registered to Mark Anthony Group Inc. was conducting a flight from Vancouver International Airport, British Columbia (BC), to Kelowna Airport, BC. Prior to cruising altitude, the crew notified NAV CANADA’s Vancouver Control Centre of a flight control problem. They declared an emergency and requested aircraft rescue and firefighting services to be on standby at Kelowna Airport. The aircraft landed without incident.

At 1428 Pacific Standard Time on 18 December 2023, the Wilderness Seaplanes Ltd. Grumman G-21A Goose aircraft (registration C-GDDJ, serial number 1184) departed Bella Bella (Campbell Island) Airport (CBBC), British Columbia, on a visual flight rules flight to Port Hardy Airport (CYZT), British Columbia, with 1 pilot and 4 passengers on board. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft experienced a dual engine failure and was unable to maintain altitude.

On 07 February 2024, a British Aerospace Avro 146 Series RJ100 aircraft, operated by Summit Air Ltd., was conducting a flight from Nanaimo Airport, British Columbia (BC), to Prince Rupert Airport, BC, with 4 crew members and 34 passengers on board.

After touchdown, the aircraft overran the runway, coming to a stop approximately 30 m beyond the threshold of Runway 31, facing northeast.
