TSB deploys a team of investigators to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, following cargo tank explosion on board tanker
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is deploying a team of investigators to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, where the oil and chemical tanker Kivalliq W. is docked.
On 15 October 2025, during ship-to-ship transfer operations in Baker Lake, Nunavut, the Kivalliq W. reported a cargo tank explosion while receiving kerosene from another vessel. No fire or injuries were reported. The investigation team will gather information and assess the occurrence.
The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline, and rail transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
