Investigation report: May 2017 inadvertent lowering of ship arrester and closing of lock gates on vessel in Beauharnois, Quebec

Québec, Quebec, 4 January 2019 – Today, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) released its investigation report (M17C0053) on the May 2017 occurrence involving the bulk carrier Federal Kumano in Beauharnois, Quebec. The bulk carrier was not damaged, but the ship arrester sustained minor damage. There were no reports of injuries or pollution.

The TSB conducted a limited-scope, fact-gathering investigation into this occurrence to advance transportation safety through greater awareness of potential safety issues.
